All About Tractor Sprinklers
Tractor sprinklers are also known as traveling sprinklers
and are among some of the coolest lawn sprinklers made. They
allow you to easily water your yard by attaching the sprinkler
to your tractor. Traditionally, they are used for yards that
have already been established, and are not recommended on
freshly seeded lawns.
Depending on the tractor sprinkler you choose, you have a
certain amount of traveling distance. Some mobile sprinklers
can travel over 200 feet. Besides mobility, it's also important
to know the speed of the sprinkler. Most sprinklers will have a
"feet per hour" measurement.
For example, if a traveling sprinkler was marked at "35 feet
per hour", that would mean that you could effectively water 35
feet from your starting point in one hours time. It's also
important to realize the diameter of the spraying water. If the
diameter of the sprinkler was 25 feet, then that would mean
that you could travel 35 feet in one direction in an hour,
covering a distance of 25 feet in the perpendicular
direction.
Even though they are called traveling sprinklers, most of
these are designed to work in a stationary position as well.
They are especially ideal for yards that have odd shape. These
commercial sprinklers can provide a wide amount of coverage, so
they are best in large areas.
Tractor sprinklers will often come with different speed
settings. Usually the standard is three different speeds so you
can get the ideal water pressure no matter what area you're
watering. When the sprinkler reaches the end of the hose, it
will automatically stop moving and dispersing water. This means
that once you lay out the house, you can set it and forget it.
It's a good hands off sprinkler.
Again, you shouldn't discount their effectiveness when it
comes to uniquely shaped yards. With a little bit of trial and
error, you should be able to lay out the hose in such a way
that the tractor will be able to reach all parts of your yard
and deliver a nice and even spray.
Finally, it's important to note that you should not lay out
your path to cross sidewalks or driveways. Lawn sprinklers like
these are not meant to travel on these areas, and you will more
than likely experience problems if you are doing this.
Tractor sprinklers are made out of die-cast iron usually,
and are to be mounted on your standard 5/8 inch garden
house.
